Easter Ideas
I'm on a hunt, an Easter hunt, an Easter hunt for ideas.
When my oldest was young, she was an only child for a long time. We went overboard with holidays. We showered her with presents and activities. We even made up little rhyming clues that we hid all around the house. One clue led to another until she found her special Easter basket.
Now with 5 though, we've scaled back some. We hide little foil eggs all over, I decorate the dining room table and each child gets a small basket of summer toy (sand toys, bubbles, sidewalk chalk) This year though I thought it would be nice to get them the Chronicles of Narnia DVD. I think I might ask the 15yo to make up clues for a hunt for the 8 & 6yo.
I know Easter is not Just about chocolate and bunnies it is a religous holiday.
One of my kids favorite Easter events is the poor man's supper at our church and this year my 15yo is in the Passion Play.
My 6yo knows what Easter is all about. My 8yo son was making up a song... "Easter, Easter, Ooohhh, Easter bunny..." and my daughter said "What about the LORD? Easter is the day the LORD is coming back, we should sing about the LORD." She just loooves theLORD and the Gospel music.
So, what special Easter traditions do you have? Any fun activities or ideas you'd like to share? I'm no Martha Stewart I can use all the help I can get.

Easter has pretty much been about the religious factor in our house. But, there was always room for an Easter Bunny :) and new Spring Clothes.
Now with a bunch of small kids around, we bought those plastic eggs and load them up with fun things from the "Dollarama". Stickers, erasers, small toys that fit, and sometimes we put crackers or cookies in them. And then we hide a few Easter eggs, because it just wouldn't be Easter without a little bit of chocolate.

I am not a Martha Stewart either. We just usually go to church and find chocolate eggs hidden outside in the yard. Sorry, no help here, but hello anyway :)

I have a fun lesson where you make merangue cookies and each step is tied to part of the scriptural account of the Easter Story. You make them the night before, and seal up the oven with a peice of tape, turn the oven off and leave it. The next morning you have hollow cookies. If I can find the sheet it's all on, I'll post it in my blog for your viewing pleasure.

My parents always made bread on Good Friday and I try to keep this tradition alive. When my girls where younger they loved to help mix and knead the dough with me. Yes this was a messy job. But nothing can replace the smell of homemade bread baking. This for means a special time.

I wish that I knew where it was, but last year, I found and did and Easter activity where you put something in an egg that symbolizes a part from the Easter story. Like a rope, a cross, etc. It had like 12 eggs and references to the bible. I wish that I could help you out more but alas, I lost it! :( Good luck!

I try to instill the meaning of Easter, but it's hard to since it's so commercialized. We usually have a big dinner after an egg/candy hunt in the back yard.

We did "Easter Bunny" a little earlier this year since we will be at my in-laws for Easter. My kids decorated eggs "Star Wars" fashion and we did the Easter basket thing, too.
Our church had a showing of the movie "The Passion of the Christ" which will probably become a yearly event. I invited the youth group to view it too, had the jr. high kids turn in permission slips though, since it is rated R. Such a powerful movie, I cry through the whole thing every time I see it.

I don't get much for this kids other than Chocolate. My hubby was mortified when I bought Miranda a bunch of stuff her First Easter. He said I took away from the meaning. So I've scaled back. We do an egg hunt and we go to Church Good Friday and Easter Sunday. But that's about it. Other than have a big meal with family. Always fun.

In our house the Easter bunny comes and leaves chocolates here and there, as well as a larger chunk of chocolate under the girls' beds or in their closet.
The most magical thing however, is that *all* of the plush bunnies in the whole house come and congregate in the living room. And there's always two new ones. We think they all come out of their respective toy boxes to say hello to the big guy himself. :)

I do exactly what you do. Down to the Narnia DVD and the hidden eggs, chalk, etc... Sometimes we hide coins in little eggs too.
We go to Mass on Sunday and have a big dinner that night.
To me, that's enough and that's blissful!
